Florida’s Annual Budget Process The State of Florida’s fiscal year begins July 1st of each year and runs until June 30th of the following year, but the budget planning and approval process takes place over a year beforehand. For example, Florida’s budget planning for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year began for Florida’s county agencies in February 2024.

On even numbered years, session begins on the second Tuesday of January. On odd numbered years (like this one), session begins on the first Tuesday of March. • Unlike the federal government, the State of Florida is required to have a balanced budget, meaning the state’s expenditures cannot exceed its revenue.
