Awareness Program for Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia-related Disorders - FAILED (AARP Supported) Senate Bill 398, by Senator Burgess (companion House Bill 1065, by Representatives Nix, Jr. & Basabe). The legislation would have created section 430.5016, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have required Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs to establish the Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Program to promote public information and resources on healthy aging, including brain health, early detection and reducing risk of dementia-related disorders. The program would have tracked new and emerging Alzheimer’s research and treatment opportunities, including clinical trials. It would have enhanced the education of health care providers in caring for patients with dementia-related disorders. The program would have included a statewide, mobile, in-person outreach initiative focused on providing brain health and care-related resources to underserved communities in Florida.
