Autonomous Practice by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - FAILED (AARP Supported) House Bill 649, by Representative Giallombardo (companion Senate Bill 718, by Senator Rodriguez, never had a hearing). The legislation would have amended sections 365.0191, 464.012, 464.0123, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have allowed certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) to perform CRNA-related duties autonomously to the full extent of their education and training without the need for supervisory physician protocol. It would have permitted CRNAs to conduct pre- anesthesia evaluations, order and administer the anesthetics, monitor and interpret the patient’s vital signs and manage a patient during surgery and in recovery.
