Senate Votes on SB 1428 & HB 881
Consumer Protection in Insurance Matters – FAILED (AARP Supported) House Bill 881, by Representative Griffitts, Jr. (companion Senate Bill 1428, by Senator DiCeglie, never had a hearing). The legislation would have created multiple sections in 624, 629 and amended multiple sections in 624, 626, 628, 629, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have tightened liability insurance regulations, authorized FDLE background checks for insurance personnel and enforced stricter affiliate compensation rules. It would have mandated fee-for-service by July 2026, required OIR approval for financial transactions and set stricter reporting requirements for public adjusters and policyowners. The legislation also strengthened the oversight of reciprocal insurers, updating governance, financial reserves, and merger procedures.
