Guardianship - FAILED (AARP Supported) Senate Bill 1272, by Senator Jones (companion House Bill 933, by Aristide, never had a hearing). The legislation would have amended sections 744.361, 744.363, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have restricted professional guardians from limiting adult wards’ contact with family and friends. It would have required guardians to provide written notice of residential changes within specified timeframes. It would have required the initial guardianship plan to specify which individuals must be informed about a ward’s death, burial arrangements and funeral plans.
Consumer Transparency for Homeowner’s Insurance - FAILED (AARP Supported) Senate Bill 888, by Senator Ávila (companion House Bill 763, by Representative Benarroch, never had a hearing). The legislation would have amended section 627.0621, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have required Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) to create a virtual resource center to enhance transparency and understanding of residential property insurance rates. It would have specified that statewide average rate changes are not protected as trade secrets and required OIR to publish insurers’ rate change requests, along with its analysis and determination of approved rate changes. The legislation would have required that every Florida residential property insurer provide a rate transparency report to consumers when offering coverage or renewing policies.
