Emergencies - PASSED (AARP Supported) Senate Bill 180, by Senator DiCeglie (companion House Bill 1535, by Representative McFarland). The legislation amends various provisions related to emergency management processes by the Division of Emergency Management (DEM). Approved by Governor; Chapter No. 2025-190, effective upon becoming a law. The legislation’s core goal is to improve the state’s ability to respond to and recover from natural emergencies, including requirements for storm preparation and recovery, a post-storm permitting plan and a recovery guide to be published online. It requires the DEM to assist local governments in several areas including creating a template for emergency management plans, guidance on the creation of mutual aid agreements, new provisions relating to debris removal from roadways after hurricanes that are category 3 or higher and include emergency election procedures.
