Affordable Property Ad Valorem Tax Exemption for Leased Land - FAILED (AARP Supported) House Bill 411, by Representative Chaney (companion Senate Bill 488, by Senator DiCeglie, never had a hearing). Legislation would have amended 196.1978, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have expanded the property tax exemption for nonprofit charities involved in affordable housing. Nonprofits that lease land from a housing finance authority and sublease it for 99 years rather than owning it outright could benefit from the exemption. This would have encouraged more nonprofit organizations to provide affordable housing for individuals within specified income limits.
