A MESSAGE FROM...

THE CEO

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

D ear Team,

J ust over five years ago I was asked by a former Parkview board chair if I would consider joining the Parkview board. My wife and I had recently moved to Stouffville after several decades in London where we had studied, worked in public education, raised our three daughters and been deeply involved in diverse volunteer activities. I was delighted to be considered for membership as I was missing the fulfillment provided by participation in important community institutions and Parkview seemed to be a most worthy cause in which to invest my energy and enthusiasm. My introduction to this new commitment was odd, however, because of COVID I was unable to enter the premises for over two years! I was able, nonetheless, to attend board and committee meetings remotely using technology developed or refined because of COVID. Since then I have come to appreciate deeply the treasure which is Parkview. Its site, dedicated staff and reputation in its community make it uniquely qualified to serve its residents. Among my most valued opportunities my board membership has allowed me, are serving as vice-chair of the board and membership on the committees which most recently developed the current Parkview Strategic Plan and selected the nominee to serve as our new CEO. Both Hamlet and the Plan are helping Parkview celebrate its 60th anniversary and develop the path for its next 60 years. In the past year the board has expanded, broadened and deepened its membership. It is a privilege for me to work alongside such able and dedicated volunteers as we seek to ensure that Parkview maintains its unique place in the heart of Stouffville.

Spring is in full bloom, and with it comes renewed energy and continued momentum across Parkview Services for Seniors. Recently members of our leadership team and Board proudly represented Parkview at the AdvantAge Ontario Conference, where we explored innovative ways to enhance the lives of both staff and residents. It was a meaningful opportunity to showcase our vision and bring back ideas to strengthen our organization. We recently completed our review of first-quarter performance, which reflects steady progress aligned with our mission. I want to thank each of you for the role you play in this success. In the month of May, we’re pleased to celebrate Nurses Week— a special time to recognize the skill, compassion, and commitment of our incredible nursing team. Your contributions are the backbone of the care we provide. On May 30, we’ll honour long-serving and dedicated staff at our Staff Awards Ceremony in the Village Auditorium. This will be one of many special moments as part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations, which will continue with Parkview Day on June 13. We’ll host thanksgiving ceremonies at both the Home and the Village, with a BBQ lunch bringing everyone together in celebration. Exciting developments continue across the organization. Our website and branding updates are near completion; infrastructure works continue across the campus and we’re enhancing programming thanks in part to your feedback. Changes at the management level are also underway to improve efficiency and strengthen the staff and resident experience. Over the summer, we’ll host a series of staff and resident BBQs to foster connection and community across the campus. We’re proud to share that our 2024 financial audit is complete, confirming our sound stewardship. Look out for our Annual Report in June, which will highlight the many milestones achieved over the past year. We’re also grateful for the ongoing engagement of the Resident Councils, who continue to support these efforts in meaningful ways.

Thank you again for your continued dedication. Together, we are shaping a stronger, more vibrant Parkview.

Warm regards, Hamlet Nation CEO

John Thorpe Vice Chair Thank you,

MESSAGE FROM THE FAMILY COUNCIL

A WORD FROM OUR CHAPLAIN

T he Family Council continues to meet monthly to help enrich life at Parkview Home. This year, we are focusing on the second-floor balconies to make the most meaningful improvements with the resources we have. The sunny “rabbit” balcony will feature rearranged planters, long-lasting artificial greenery, and a new water feature—offering a vibrant, low-maintenance space for all to enjoy. The courtyard-facing balcony will bloom with colourful annuals in new raised self-watering planters. Existing planters will hold flowers, veggies, and climbing vines, with another water feature adding a peaceful touch. A heartfelt thank you to the Stouffville Lion’s Club for their generous $750 donation. We will be assembling and planting with residents on May 21 and 28. Looking ahead, we are planning a silent auction this November–December and welcome any leads for donations. Two of our members recently attended the Stouffville Prayer Breakfast and found it uplifting. To reach us, visit the Family Council board outside Oak Ridge—we would love to connect.

A s we journey through the beautiful months of April and May, we are reminded that spring is a season of renewal, growth, and hope. The earth awakens with blossoms, birdsong, and longer days, gently encouraging our spirits to do the same. In many faith traditions, spring symbolizes new beginnings and the promise of life. In Christianity, it follows Easter, a celebration of resurrection and hope. In Judaism, the season embraces Shavuot, a time of spiritual renewal and the giving of wisdom. In Islam, this time may include reflection after Ramadan, embracing gratitude and compassion. Hindu and Buddhist teachings also remind us of the cycles of life, growth, and inner peace. No matter your path, spring invites us all to pause, to breathe in the fresh air, and to find joy in each moment. Let us take time to nurture our spirits, care for one another, and give thanks for the gift of each new day.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO EXTEND A WARM PARKVIEW WELCOME TO THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF OUR TEAM: Jingyi Yu Jessica Day

E ach of you brings unique skills, talents, and experiences that will enhance our community, and we are thrilled to have you on board! To all staff, please join us in warmly welcoming our new team members. A friendly smile, a brief chat, or a helping hand can go a long way in making them feel welcome here at Parkview. Let’s continue fostering a positive and inclusive environment together!

THE HEART BEHIND THE ROLE BECAUSE EVERY MOTHER’S STORY DESERVES TO BE HEARD — AND FELT.

M otherhood, to me, is the embodiment of unconditional love, a constant presence through both the joyful and challenging moments. It means being a source of strength during sleepless nights, offering comfort in times of uncertainty, and celebrating every small victory with pride. Even in the most difficult times, motherhood calls for patience, resilience, and a kind of love that never fades. It’s about showing up, no matter what, and giving the best of yourself even when it’s hard. Through every high and low, motherhood remains one of the most profound and rewarding parts of my life.

B eing a nurse for the past 30 years has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Most of my career has been in long-term care, walking with seniors through vulnerable times. It has been an honour to care for and advocate for them every day. Nursing is not just a job—it is a calling, and I am so grateful to have lived it. This work has shaped me deeply, especially as a mother. Becoming a mom to Elizabeth, Grace, and Daniel has been my greatest joy. They are my heart, and I am so proud of the kind, resilient people they have become. (And yes—having a nurse for a mom meant no faking sick days!) Both nursing and motherhood have filled my life with purpose, love, and meaning. I truly could not ask for more.

Antonella Catalanotto Director, Nutritional Services

Angela Bisschop Director of Clinical Operations

In celebration of Mother’s Day on May 12, The Heart Behind the Role is a tribute to the quiet strength, endless care, and deep love that define motherhood. It honours the moments—big and small—that shape a mother’s journey, from selfless acts of care to the unwavering support they give each day. We are grateful to the mothers in our community who continue to lead with heart, reminding us of the powerful impact of love, resilience, and presence.

LEADERSHIP UPDATE W e are pleased to announce that Eva has accepted the role of Manager, Resident Experience, Volunteer and Support Services at Parkview Home. Eva will lead our Life Enrichment and Volunteer Programs, oversee non-clinical support services, and serve as the Designated Lead for Recreational and Social Activities. In this expanded role, Eva will focus on enhancing resident and family engagement, supporting our valued volunteers, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Her leadership will help ensure our programs reflect the diverse needs and preferences of our residents. We are grateful for Eva’s dedication and compassion, and we are confident she will continue to make a positive impact in this new chapter. Please join us in congratulating her!

JENNIFER GREGORY’S NEW CHAPTER

A fter 25 dedicated years at the Home, Jennifer Gregory is beginning a new chapter at The Village. Her warmth, commitment, and compassion have made a lasting impact, and she will be truly missed. We wish her all the best in this next step.

STEPPING OUTSIDE THE COMFORT ZONE: ADMINISTRATOR REFLECTIONS

Who would have thought that leading in long-term care would one day include decisions like this? But when we say we’re committed to creating a safe, healthy, and compassionate environment for all who live and work here—that includes the animals who’ve brought us joy, comfort, and companionship. Rest in peace, Loki—our sweet, gentle cat. And may you live out the rest of your days in bliss, Tawny the bunny. choices were not easy, but were made with compassion, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility to their wellbeing. A fter 14 years in the long-term care sector, I’ve faced many decisions that require careful thought and balance—considering the needs of residents, families, and staff to ensure the best possible care. But this month, the weight of leadership showed up in an unexpected and emotional way. After much consultation, reflection, and care, we made the decision to say goodbye to our home’s beloved elderly and unwell cat, and to surrender our bunny to a sanctuary where she can thrive among her own kind. These This month was a reminder that leadership isn’t always about reports, policies or budgets. Sometimes, it’s about honoring the relationships and responsibilities entrusted to us, and making decisions guided by empathy, even when they weigh heavy on the heart.

My sincere condolences to those affected by these losses, but especially to the residents, staff, and family members who shared so many special moments with Loki and Tawny.

Christine Ramdeyol, MBA, RN, BScN, GNC(c) Home Administrator
