By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger

The 2022 season is over for many area football programs. While some teams advanced to the AHSAA State Playoffs, many others closed out the year at the end of the regular season. The Albertville Aggies are one of several local teams that have concluded the season. The Aggies fell to Marshall County rival Guntersville 49-7 in the 2022 regular season finale to finish with a 1-9 overall record. Albertville’s only win this season was a 41-30 victory over rival Boaz. The Douglas Eagles finished with a 6-4 record and just missed the state playoffs. All four of the Eagles’ losses this season came in class 5A Region 7. Douglas fell to region foes Boaz, Arab, Guntersville and Scottsboro. However, the Eagles did end the year on a positive note, by defeating North Sand Mountain 45-13 in the season finale. The Sardis Lions also missed the state playoffs. The Lions finished 4-6 under first year Head Coach Chris Stephenson. Sardis closed out the year with a 16-14 victory over Hokes Bluff. Asbury closed out its football season with a 36-32 victory over Woodville. It was the only win of the season for the Rams, as the program finished with a 1-9 overall record. DAR also finished with a 1-9 overall record. The Patriots defeated Clements 34-24. However, the program ended the season with four straight losses, including a 60-7 disappointing loss to North Jackson in the season finale. Brindlee Mountain picked up early season wins over Cherokee and Asbury. However, the Lions lost seven straight games to end the season with a 2-8 overall record. The Ider Hornets also finished the year with a 2-8 record. The Hornets closed out the season with a 41-0 loss to DeKalb County rival Fyffe. It was the only game this year that Ider’s offense was shut out. The Plainview Bears won three of their last four games, including a 36-27 victory over New Hope in the regular

Sand Rock also finished the season with a 4-6 overall record. The Wildcats ended the year on a positive note, winning the last two games of the season. Sand Rock defeated Ider 34-20 and Whitesburg Christian 33-0 in the season finale. The Section Lions struggled this year only winning one game, which was a 28-19 homecoming victory over Ider.
