MAY 12 A Change of Heart

"And Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out o f Haran. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and L ot . . . and they went forth to go into the land o f Canaan” (Gen. 12:4, 5 ). The natural life may be happy, the nat ural surroundings bright, but when God gives the word that leads to faith in Him self the soul begins to experience a thirst which nothing short of God can ever sat isfy. It is not, perhaps, that the old hearts or the old surroundings have changed for the worse, but we have changed. Haran has lost to us its attractions, and we must go to the land which He in whom we have trusted “shall show to us.” —C. R u ssell H u rd itch . MAY 13 A God-Made Man "It is the Lord that advanced Moses" (1 Sam. 12:6). Moses was a great man, but he was not a self-made man; it was the Lord who made him. He first made Moses safe; next He made him humble; and then He made him obedient, He overcame his objections; and, after that, He made him successful. Archbiship Hannington Lees divided the life of Moses into three chapters of forty years each. The first forty years he was learning to be somebody. The next forty years he was learning to be nobody. The last forty years he was learning to help everybody. And the same Lord who made Moses can make us and use us in His service today.— G u y H. K ing . MAY 14 Let Him In "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and wilt sup with him, and he with me" (Rev. 3:20). Behold One standing at the door. And hear Him pleading evermore W ith gentle voice — Oh, heart o f sin !— "Let Me come in, let Me com e in!" Let Him come in with the gifts of par don and this new life that He brings. Let Him take charge of your thinking. Let Him take charge of your desires, of your imagi nation, of your reading, of your amuse ments, of your friendships. Let Him take charge of every department of your life. Let Him control every interest. Open your life to Him. Bid Him come in. And when you let Him in, He brings to you the power of His own resurrection.—J. R. S . W ilso n . MAY 15 W alking Worthy "I therefore, the prisoner o f the Lord, beseech you that y e walk worthy o f the vocation wherewith y e are called" (Eph. 4 :1 ). Since I accepted Christ as my Saviour, has it been my single aim to become more
