mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die." Unbelief always looks at the place of faith as the most awful thing possible— all darkness.— Sunday School Times. Unbelief has no song of joy. It is the believer who can compose and sing from the heart the great songs of faith. The most precious poetry is that of the children of God writing of praise, thanksgiving, and redemption.— Brethren Evangelist. "N ow faith is assurance o f things hoped for, a conviction o f things not seen" (Heb. 11:1, R. V .). True faith drops its letter in the post- office box, and lets it go. Distrust holds on to a comer of it, and wonders that the an swer never comes. I have some letters in my desk that have been written for weeks. They will never accomplish anything until I let them go out of my hands and trust them to the postman and the mail. This is the case with tme faith. It hands its case over to God, and then He works. —A. B. S im pso n . MAY 28 He Knows "He knoweth the way that I take" (Job 23:10). He knows it all—the winding path, The sky o’ercast and grey, The steepness of the mountain side, The roughness of the way. He knows it all—each troubled thought, Each anxious wave of care, And every burden, every grief. That thou art called to bear. He knows it all—be His to choose, And thine to take His choice; He knows it all? He planned it so! Then trust Him, and rejoice! —E. M argaret C la rkso n . MAY 29 Conviction "W oe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" (1 Cor. 9:16). "Conviction” is the word which carries the secret of soul-winning. Any man who will give definition to that stupendous word and translate it into life, will make the dis covery . . . The bolt upon the door of every man’s heart is of the same patent, and flies back at the same secret touch. What most Christian disciples need more than anything else is a conviction which has fastened itself upon them by a grip which will not lessen or loosen. — C ortland M yers . MAY 30 The One Message ” F or I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him cru cified" (1 Cor. 2 :2 ). I dare not live as a preacher of my own inventions. I dare not die as a preacher of my own thoughts. I must tell my Master’s message or be accursed. The spirit of the age is the spirit of proud self-sufficiency; be it ours to sit at Jesus’ feet. My Lord will one day say to me, “I gave thee a message: didst thou deliver it? I bade thee speak in My name: didst thou speak My words or MAY 27 Faith

But none o f these things move me, nei ther count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received o f the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel o f the grace o f God" (Acts 20:24). So long as a man lives only for his own happiness, he can no more render unselfish service to God than a soldier can be a hero in the hour of battle while the chief desire of his heart is to secure his safety from bodily harm . . . Man’s truest joy can be found only in a purpose of life that over shadows all thought of his personal comfort and safety; for whosoever would save him self shall lose the prize he seeks; but whoso ever shall lose himself in Christ’s service shall win all that he lives for—and more. — H . Hopelessly crippled and terribly deformed, this aged leper is being carried by his companions to the mission hospital where he will receive the healing chaulmoogra oil. Broken in body now, but joyful in spirit, this venerable leper is thankful that he was received in a Christian leper colony. To him and to thousands like him “finding Christ” is worth more than the medical help they receive.
