IMGL CONFERENCE PREVIEW
issues to be covered in a packed program that will take in technology, integrity and major industry trends. All work and no play is not the style of an IMGL conference as the extensive social program demonstrates kicking off with our Opening Ceremony. This event in the city’s historic Armature Works with its lively nightlife, bars and restaurants is the perfect opportunity to connect with friends old and new. With a lively combination of lawyers in private practice and in house with major operating companies, and gaming regulators from jurisdictions around the world, there will no doubt be the chance to do some business too. Or at least build relationships which will pay dividends in the future. Networking is one of the big benefits of an IMGL conference and Tampa will be no exception. The opportunity to chat with colleagues, to understand different perspectives and to build your professional network will be second to none. That will culminate in a glittering gala dinner where first-class food, excellent wine and great company will be the order of the evening. Then, when everything is wrapped up on the last day, there is a final chance to say goodbye with a closing reception sponsored by GLI. With so much going on during the event itself there is a danger you might miss out on Tampa’s unique hospitality. The city was recently voted one of the best food destinations in the USA and it really is a mecca for those intent on savoring the tastiest treats in laid back surroundings. Florida’s huge coastline means there is no shortage of fish and seafood although it may not be served in ways you are familiar with. Spanish influences from nearby Cuba and the Caribbean means crab is as likely to be devilled in a croquette as served with lettuce in a cocktail. Grouper is popular as are oysters and shrimp and, for those with meat in mind, there is no shortage of smokin’ barbeque restaurants. The Keys may be further south, but
those with a sweet tooth will still find some of the best Key Lime Pie anywhere in the state. if you are visiting Tampa for the first time, there are many reasons to get into town a day or so ahead of time and extend your trip through the following weekend. From a visit to the city’s famous aquarium to a range of water activities, a round of golf on a world-class course to an exploration of the state’s historic link with Cuba and its cigars, there really is something for everyone. If you’re staying in town for the weekend there is the chance to grab a ticket to watch the Rays, Tampa’s major league baseball team, take on rivals the San Francisco Giants. With horse racing at the nearby Tampa Bay Downs racetrack and the ocean barely half an hour away it really will be hard to tear yourself away when it’s time to leave. Discounted places available Attendance at the IMGL spring conference comes at a cost but it doesn’t have to be a high one.
