The auto-injector is a handheld device that treats life-threatening allergic reactions by automati- cally injecting a dose of epinephrine. “A shortage does not necessarily mean that there is no supply available in pharmacies. At this time, the company has indicated that limited inventory of both products remain available and is being carefully managed nationally,” Health Canada said. T he Liberal government has announced that it will revise rules than deem some prospective immigrants inad- missible on medical grounds. Increasing the health- care cost threshold, which is the sum a prospective immi- grant can’t exceed in annual health care costs in order to be considered admissible into Canada to $20,000 a year, three times the threshold under the old policy. Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen said the medical inad- missibility policy, which has been in place for more than 40 years, is “way out of date” and not in line with Canadian values or government policies of inclusion. Under the new revised policy, immigrants won’t be denied permanent residency if they or any of their children have developmental delays, special education requirements or a hearing or visual impairment.

A Calgary doctor and entrepreneur has made it as a finalist in a prestigious U.K. innovation forum for her innovative smart shoe invention that helps prevent damage to the feet of people with diabetes. ​Dr. Breanne Everett is one of twelve finalists in the Pitch@Palace Commonwealth Competition, which means she’ll be able to pitch her innovative medical technology to an international audience of entrepreneurs, tech experts, media represen- tatives and investors at St. James’ Palace in London.

Everett is the CEO and founder of Orpyx, a company that makes wearable tech that measures foot pressure and gait for diabetics to prevent issues that can come with a lack of nerve sensitivity in their feet.

The idea behind the technology is that the shoe’s insole can sense what the patient themselves no longer can.
