SKILLS, GENERAL AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge and direct experience of environmental issues, legislation and its application in a large complex organisation Knowledge and understanding of environmental sustainability in large complex organisations, and of the relevant major influences it has on business strategy. Evidence based approach using robust data analytics to planning and decision making Excellent presentation/communication skills, especially the ability to communicate complex ideas simply to different groups, forums and boards/committees Good organisational skills and an ability to plan workload on a number of concurrent projects and deadlines Knowledge of wider sustainability issues including corporate social responsibility Smart Campus/Smart Systems technology and its role in Environmental Sustainability Demonstrable personal and professional commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Clear ability to engage, enthuse and secure ownership from others through personal influence and professional knowledge and experience Clear ability to represent the University externally at the highest level. Well-developed leadership and management skills with operational expertise in a related discipline and a detailed understanding of the full range of the University’s environmental sustainability issues. Good networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships. Clear ability and willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively across different teams and a wide-variety of stakeholders Systemic and holistic approach to sustainability, with the ability to communicate and manage complexity

EXPERIENCE

Leading Environmental Sustainability in a large complex organisation Developing policy and strategy, development plans and delivery of programmes and projects in environmental sustainability Leading successful change and transformation programmes/projects across a large diverse community Producing high quality reports, and giving clear oral reports/presentations. Developing networks and communities of practice to build collaboration and partnership working Successful team leadership showing a positive growth mindset as a demonstrable strength Establishing and securing successful funding programmes The successful management and planning of budgets Successful management of a team of specialists Higher education experience Establishing environmental accreditation via initiatives such as EcoCampus. Developing high level regional and national networks within the sector and outside of the sector An appropriate first degree in an environmental sustainability related discipline An appropriate professional qualification, to chartered level (CEnv, MIEMA etc), in an environmental sustainability related discipline demonstrating extensive experience in environmental leadership and management Evidence of leadership and management training and development Post graduate degree National Diploma in Environmental Management – NEBOSH Qualification in ISO auditing Project Management qualification e.g. APM
