Each night our cast of six super-talented improv performers command the spotlight with sketches and improv sets created with the help of a rowdy audience. Guaranteed to produce a new show every time, audience participation creates the vibe that drives the action on stage, with unexpected and hilarious results. You’ll be blown away by what thousands of hours of professional training combined with a lifetime of crap day jobs have done to these guys. They’ll say and do just about anything to hear just four words at the end of the show. Main Stage Thursdays | 8pm Fridays | 7:30 & 10pm Saturdays | 7:30 & 10pm

Sh*t! That was funny!

MAIN STAGE ACTOR Joey Lopez Boston

Joey made it all the way to becoming an Air Force Captain before ditching a solid career to follow his comedic dreams. Now, Joey gets his share of turbulence on the Main Stage where he doesn’t have to shout over the engine noise to deliver his lines. Unless it’s Raunch Night of course. And no Joey, there’s no IA eject button.

Ceara O’Sullivan Boston

MAIN STAGE ACTOR

Ceara cut her teeth in improv across the river at Improv Boston before joining the crew on the Main Stage. When attending Boston College, she was a performer and director with My Mother’s Fleabag, America’s oldest college improv comedy troupe. An overachiever with questionable snack preferences, Ceara’s found a home at IA.

MAIN STAGE ACTOR Alex Kagy Boston

His LinkedIn profile might lead you to believe that Alex is still an Usher, but he graduated to the Main Stage a few years ago. His talents are shared with one of the resident House Teams, and he’s a founding member of the indie group Just Suspects. That puts him on site at least four days a week where he can still occasionally be found picking up garbage between the seats.

Matt Griffin

MAIN STAGE ACTOR Boston

Matt got his start at Improv Asylum as a wide eyed usher. He then went on to join House Teams and the NXT cast. He is also a founding member of the Just Suspects. When he is not at Improv Asylum

he can be found writing about himself in the third person.

MAIN STAGE ACTOR KellyDooley Boston

Kelly got her start in improv as a member of Seriously Bent, an award- winning troupe performing improv and sketch comedy at Boston’s Suffolk University. After studying theatre, she worked her way to the IA Main Stage as a member of House Teams and the NXT cast. If you’ve had a couple of drinks and find yourself peering at three stunning blonds, she’s the one with the glasses.

Anne Krane

MAIN STAGE ACTOR Boston

Anne likes improv! She started in college, and now she teaches improv workshops in schools and prisons in Boston. She is a Pre-K teacher by day, and enjoys playing pretend with children as well as adults. She is over the moon to be a part of this terrific cast, and is so thankful that at this job people pee their pants slightly less than at her other job.

NXT Show Sundays & Tuesdays | 8pm This is exactly what it sounds like – a sketch and improv show where you can preview the talents of what could well be the next Main Stage cast.

Vanity Project Wednesdays | 8pm Spend hump day with members of our current and past Main Stage cast, NXT cast and special guests for a smorgasbord of anything goes improv.

HouseTeams Mondays | 8pm Catch a sneak peek at Boston’s up-and-coming improv stars every Monday night when House Teams takes to the stage.

WATCH A CLIP OF HOUSE TEAMS

HappyHour Saturdays | 5pm It’s a fast-paced 90-minute all-improv show that’s been added to the regular lineup as a gut-busting appetizer to those with dinner plans.

LIT Night Third Thursdays | 10pm Once a month, we prepare a full sketch-comedy production, but we don’t let the host in on what we’ve got planned. And the host is completely stoned!

WATCH A CLIP OF LIT NIGHT

House Party Fridays | Midnight Celebrate the end of the week with us by playing some drinking games with our six wizards of improv.

Raunch Saturdays | Midnight This is an adult-only show that’s lip-smackingly

tasteless and fueled by the perverse suggestions of our late-night audience.

Steve Sarro Boston

MUSIC DIRECTOR

Steve Sarro is a pianist, multi- instrumentalist, composer, producer, and music director. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he currently serves as music director at Improv Asylum, and can be seen performing every weekend with their Main Stage sketch and improv revue. He has also written and produced original comedy songs with the Improv Asylum cast, composed original children’s songs and full-length musicals with Artbarn Community Theater in Brookline, MA, and provided musical underscoring for various comedy video projects. Though classically trained, he is particularly an enthusiast of 80’s pop, rock, and power ballads, and he cites Tina Turner as his role model and spirit guide in music, career, and life.

TECH DIRECTOR Boston Dan Hirshfield

Dan operates the lights and sound for the Main Stage every weekend. He also performs on the NXT cast every Sunday and Tuesday, and teaches improv at the Improv Asylum Training Center. A graduate of Brandeis University, he found his way to Improv Asylum in 2014, where he has also worked as a production intern, usher, box office agent, and stage manager. When he’s not at Improv Asylum, you can find him at Dave and Buster’s, breaking skeeball records and hearts.

Become an Unstoppable Powerhouse This is Norm Laviolette’s Magnum Opus, published in 2019 by Wiley. It contains the best advice he could come up with after 20+ years in the business, but it won’t teach you how to become an improv star. Instead, Norm demonstrates how the skills of improv can be used in business to build teams, move ideas forward and achieve innovative results.

Norm’s book is available at the box office.

Corporate Training

Improv skills are all about knowing how to build on an idea put forward by a team member to move a story forward. And that’s exactly what most leaders are trying to foster in the workplace. Listening, collaboration and momentum.  Learning how to think on your feet starts with knowing how to listen, and training in improv employs a whole slew of techniques that foster active listening. Ideas move forward instead of being shot down or restated over and over again because nobody is picking up on a concept. Keeping a thread alive on stage is no different from developing corporate strategy or pursuing innovation.  So, let us help. Our Corporate Training Program brings the art of improv to the corporate world in a way that makes learning to listen, collaborate and create both engaging and fun. Picking up a few improv skills will help your teammembers work together more effectively, bolster their confidence, and help them process complex information quickly. It’s a new approach to an age-old problem – and it works.  We can’t teach your people to be funny, but we can help them develop the skills that have made us able to think on our feet, collaborate on a project, refine ideas and produce effective results. Remember when corporate training involved a day of boredom followed by a rubber-chicken dinner and an evening of Brenda from finance hogging the Karaoke mic? NOT ANYMORE.
