Porta Venezia is one of Milan’s liveliest and most sought-after districts, with iconic Art Nouveau architecture, outstanding art galleries, extensive green spaces, excellent shopping, quirky eateries, gourmet restaurants and bustling nightlife venues offering expertly crafted cocktails. This unique district is also rich in history, home to the Casa Cambiaghi , Palazzo and Torre Rasini , Piscina Cozzi , the Casa di Vico Magistretti and Torre di
Breda , a 116-metre high building with 31 floors that is taller than the city’s iconic Madonnina del Duomo statue. It’s also home to Palazzo Luraschi , which occupies a section of the famous Lazzaretto , the city’s former leper hospital. The building pays homage to Alessandro Manzoni’s The Bethrothed , with twelve busts in the courtyard depicting the novel’s main characters. Not to be missed are the wonderful Neoclassical Villa Reale and
Villa Necchi Campiglio , a noble Milanese residence designed by Italian architect Piero Portaluppi. The area is also home to the Casa Museo Boschi di Stefano , the GAM Modern Art Gallery, PAC Contemporary Art Pavilion, Villa Invernizzi – whose gardens are home to beautiful pink flamingos – and the secluded Indro Montanelli gardens, one of the city’s green lungs. With so much to see and do, the district is well worth a visit.
