the monthly hale OCTOBER 2025

It’s that time of year again: When pumpkins glow, costumes come out of hiding, and the air smells like cinnamon and caramel apples. Our family has a long list of favorite Halloween traditions, and this year we thought we’d share our Top 10 Halloween Must-Do’s. Maybe you’ll spot one of your favorites or get inspired to add something new to your spooky season lineup! DECORATE HALLOWEEN COOKIES Ghosts, bats, and pumpkins, nothing beats smearing icing and sprinkles over fresh cookies (and sneaking a taste along the way). TRICK-OR-TREAT WITH NEIGHBORS This is always traditional fun. We enjoy candy, costumes, and finding the house with the best goodies! It’s so nice to potluck with neighbors and catch up with each other. CORN PICKING It’s surprisingly satisfying to wander the fields and bring home a little fall flavor this time of year! We like to visit Aloun Farms in Kapolei during their Pumpkin Fall Festival. We pick 50 ears of corn in their field and then share with neighbors. PUMPKIN CARVING Whether it’s a scary monster or a silly grin, carving night is messy, hilarious, and even a little competitive. We roast the pumpkin seeds in the oven after we carve and they’re delicious! COSTUME PICKING Half the fun is trying on all the ideas before settling on “the one.” Bonus points for homemade creativity! We often find good deals on costumes second hand on Facebook marketplace. PUMPKIN PATCHES AND SUNFLOWER FARMS These are all picture-perfect fall vibes. (And let’s be real, we all take too many fun photos here.) We love Waimanalo Country Farms and Aloun Farms, both local small businesses. BAKE PUMPKIN CRUNCH This recipe is sweet pumpkin-y goodness! It’s basically autumn in a pan. MULLED WINE RECIPE For the adults, nothing warms up a chilly night like a mug of spiced wine. Simmer 4 cups red wine, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons of mulling spices for 20 minutes. Remove spices and serve with a cinnamon stick. Your whole house will smell incredible! DECORATE THE HOUSE Cue the spooky vibes! Fake cobwebs, glowing skeletons, and maybe a motion-activated spider to scare the unsuspecting are always great ideas. WATCH SCARY MOVIES Sometimes it’s a classic thriller, others it’s kid-friendly spooks, but these movies are always fun to watch this time of the year! Whatever you’re up to this Halloween, may it be full of laughter, treats (not too many tricks), and cozy fall fun. Stay safe, stay spooky, and Happy Halloween from our family to yours! MEET THE OURA RING: TINY TECH THAT’S BIG ON WELLNESS Sleep, Stress, and a Stylish Ring

WHAT OUR C “A big thank you to Jason Mitchell for being diligent, communicative, and easy to work with. I was off- island when I was working on purchasing my new beautiful home, and Jason walked me through every step to make sure that the buying process went smoothly. If you’re looking for a real estate agent with the aloha spirit I highly recommend Jason Mitchell.” —Joshua Frager, Hau‘ula, H 5.0 We have a 5.0 rating on Google*

It might look like a minimalist fashion statement, but the Oura Ring is quietly becoming a go-to tool for people interested in tuning in to their health on a deeper level. Worn on your finger like a simple band, this high-tech ring is made of lightweight titanium and packed with tiny sensors that collect a wealth of data, without screaming “wearable tech.” The magic lies in what it tracks and how it reports back. Users get three main scores daily: Sleep, Activity, and Readiness. These scores don’t just tell you how many steps you’ve taken or how many hours you slept; they interpret how your body responds to your lifestyle. Are

you fully recharged? Do you need rest? Are your stress levels creeping up or holding steady? The Oura Ring breaks these questions down with surprising clarity. It even uses heart rate variability (HRV), body temperature changes, and other biometrics to assess how your nervous system is handling stress. Instead of one generic “stress score,” it categorizes your body’s state into Restored, Relaxed, Engaged, or Stressed, offering a nuanced picture of your internal state throughout the day. It can detect subtle signs suggesting your body

needs a break or might be fighting an illness. The ring syncs with an app so you can view trends over time, experiment with habits, and see what’s helping or hindering your progress.

MARKET ACTIVITY Year-to-date numbers remain below 2024 levels. Single- family sales volume is down 2.2% compared to last year, while condo sales are down 4.7%. August, however, brought a notable surge in single-family buyer activity, with pending sales climbing 28.5% year-over-year to 302, the highest monthly total so far this year. Condo activity held steady, with pending sales off just 1.0% from last year at 406. Homes are also spending more time on the market. In August, single-family listings recorded a median of 22 days on the market, compared to 14 days a year ago. Condo lengths increased to a median of 48 days, compared to 28 days in August 2024. OVERALL OUTLOOK The gradual easing of mortgage conditions appears to have created momentum in the single-family segment, while the condominium market continues to reflect affordability considerations and extended days on market. Overall, the market remains balanced, offering opportunities for both buyers and sellers depending on their objectives. In August, the Oahu housing market held steady overall, though there were modest shifts between the single-family and condominium segments. Single-family home sales increased by 2.4%, while condo sales dipped by 2.5%. Prices are balanced, with the median single-family price lowering by 1.5% to $1,105,500 and the median condo price rising 3.0% to $515,000.

It’s practical, too: water- resistant up to 100 meters, charges in under an hour, and holds a charge for several days. You can wear it in the

shower, on a hike, even through a sauna session.

For those who enjoy experimenting with wellness routines (like green juice detoxes, morning walks, cold plunges, and screen-free evenings), Oura can help you see what’s actually working. It doesn’t just track what you do; it helps you understand your body’s needs.

So, if you’ve ever wondered what’s really going on under the surface, the Oura Ring might be your way to find out.

10 Ways We Make Halloween Extra Fun (and Delicious!) 2 The Future of Wellness Fits on Your Finger What Our Clients Are Saying October Oahu Housing Market Update 3 Creamy Braised Short Ribs 4 Weekend Living Room Refresh Tip

Small Changes, Big Results

A LIVING ROOM REFRESH MADE SIMPLE

Sometimes, your home needs more than a quick-fix cleaning. It needs a reset, and the living room is a good place to start because people gather, settle in, and spend time there with each other. But over the years, even a cozy, relaxing space can lose shape. Maybe you’ve had one too many attempts at rearranging your furniture or a mix of styles that never quite clicked. That doesn’t mean you need to tear the whole thing apart. With a solid plan and one weekend, you can bring new life to your space — no contractor required. Start with what’s working. It could be a sofa worn just right or a wooden table with a storied past. Use those to ground the space. Then, clear the decks: Pull down the shelf clutter, trim back the pillow pile, and give your eyes space to rest. Once the room can breathe again, bring in new touches. Paint if you feel up to it. Even just one wall in a deeper tone can shift the whole feel. If

that’s too much, bring in more texture. Think curtains that catch the light, a low-pile rug, or a few new cotton, linen, or velvet pillows. Light also does more than people think. Swapping a fixture or adding a lamp near the reading chair can shift the room’s ambiance. Pulling the furniture closer to the windows can also do the same. Rearranging things to make the most of natural light can brighten the entire space and make it feel more open. And don’t forget about the other sensory elements. Simple things like a new scent or potted plants are an easy way to breathe fresh life into your living room. Once you get started, you’ll see it doesn’t take a complete overhaul to make a space feel better. A throw with some heft, a chair turned toward the light, and a clear table surface can bring back a sense of calm. You know it’s working when the room invites you in without trying too hard.
