There is a real commitment across the whole organisation to co-design and getting the best outcome for every resident. Vicki Hayes, Group Project Manager
Rodney loves ABBA, Batman and Spiderman, and his new bedroom is going to be a wonderland of superheroes and the music collection he treasures. Specialist Housing Group Project Manager Vicki Hayes drives the Singletons Renewal Project and said creating an environment where people feel comfortable to consider changes in their living environment and encouraging their participation in the co-design process was paramount. “Being able to actively include people living with a disability in planning their new homes is exciting. There is a real commitment across the whole organisation to co-design and getting the best outcome for every resident.”
Allen Kong Architects, who have more than 30 years of experience specialising in accessible, inclusive design and ageing in place, were engaged to lead one of the new homes in Reservoir. The design will respond to resident requests, balanced with practical considerations such as access to onsite staffing support overnight and environmental and sustainability considerations. “You can always learn from talking to people in a living situation, particularly residents who have lived together for some time. We look forward to working with the Azalea Street residents and interpreting their preferences into something that not only meets their expectations but hopefully exceeds them,” said Allen.
Over the coming year, the Specialist Housing Group Team will roll out co-design projects across the state to ensure residents can exercise choice and control in shaping their new homes.
