Housing Choices Australia Annual Report 2022

In Tasmania, Housing Choices was awarded the transfer of 475 properties in November 2021 in the north and south areas of the state under the Community Housing Growth Program for long-term management. The scale and complexity involved with this transfer was large with the Tasmanian team’s exceptional performance ensured the smooth transition into the existing, large portfolio. In Victoria, Housing Choices was awarded the Community Housing Maintenance Stimulus Package in 2021, with funding of over $4 million for works across 420 homes owned by Housing Choices and Homes Victoria. Our delivery team and contractors faced many COVID related challenges and interruptions, but despite this the team completed works across 272 homes worth $3.18 million within approved timeframes. As part of the stimulus package, many of the works undertaken contributed to environmental sustainability objectives, including 151 solar systems, 120 energy efficient air conditioning systems, and 60 energy efficient hot water heat pump systems. In addition to the Maintenance Stimulus Package, Solar Victoria provided supplementary funding of $526,986 to Housing Choices, which assisted with provision of an additional 309 solar systems. Housing Choices WA also received significant funding of $6.75 million in February 2022 as part of the WA Government’s Social Housing Economic Recovery Package. This funding contributes to essential maintenance and property upgrades across 362 metropolitan and regional homes by December 2024.

Project Management Office Housing Choices continued its significant investment in the commercial team and various skillsets to ensure the delivery of quality projects. Our recently established Project Management Office was further embedded into the organisation through its Project Investment Committee and its associated stage gating process. This has enabled greater cohesion between teams to deliver robust property development and tender management functions. The commercial analytics function has contributed invaluable expertise to support robust, comprehensive financial modelling for new developments and significant asset upgrade projects. The growth of the commercial team in the past year and the depth of its capabilities will enable Housing Choices to be well placed for future growth opportunities. Housing Choices is excited to collaborate with all federal, state and local government departments and associated agencies in 2023 to develop innovative social and affordable housing models to address Australia’s affordable housing crisis.
