TEXARKANA MAGAZINE

T his past month, our family had the joy of celebrating the very special wedding of my dad and his beautiful new bride, Ginger. It was one of those nights you never want to end. We dressed up, gathered with friends and family, and celebrated well, with a live band, plenty of dancing, and even a surprise cannonball into the pool by my youngest son, George… in a full suit… to win a $20 bet with a new friend. Weddings have a way of bringing everyone together, and not just for the party. Marriage is a sacred union. It is not only the joining of two people but also the blending of families, the start of a new chapter, and, most importantly, a covenant before God. It is a commitment that is deeper than a promise—it’s a sacred vow of love, grace, and growth. This issue is full of inspiration for those planning their own big day or simply celebrating love. We had a great time working on the bridal gown feature. It showcases stunning dresses that can be purchased locally, modeled by the incredibly beautiful Kate Woodman. Every image from that photoshoot was captivating, and Kate’s beauty, inside and out, shines in every frame. You will also find a collection of real weddings that will inspire you when planning your celebration. I may have even considered renewing my vows to Fred after working on this issue. He quickly reminded me we have cars to buy and college to pay for in our future… so Destin, Florida, circa 2007 will remain our one and only. Be sure to scan the QR codes throughout to watch each couple’s wedding videos—you will feel like you were there. Also, don’t miss our Vendor Directory and featured advertisers. They are the local resources you need to help you plan your perfect day. Most of all, keep this issue close. Whether you are planning now or dreaming of the future, we hope it serves as a beautiful guide and a meaningful keepsake. Best wishes to all the newlyweds,

Before the Vows Engagement Photo Ideas PHOTOS BY MAKAYLA JONES PHOTOGRAPHY

You’re engaged—congratulations! One of the most meaningful ways to celebrate this exciting chapter is with an engagement photo session. More than just a photo op, it’s a chance to capture the joy of this season in a way that reflects your unique style and relationship. While it may be tempting to skip it, engagement photos offer so much more than a few pretty pictures. They allow you to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day, build rapport with your photographer, and create lasting memories in a relaxed setting. To make your session truly personal, think beyond the standard poses and traditional backdrops. Choose a location that holds meaning for you, wear outfits that feel authentic, and don’t be afraid to ditch the clichés in favor of a session that feels like you. A little planning goes a long way in making these images timeless keepsakes.

REAL COUPLE SPOTLIGHT Brenda Awuah & Erik Mason-Holmes

When Brenda Awuah and Erik Mason-Holmes got engaged, they wanted their photos to reflect more than just a milestone—they wanted them to tell their love story. Brenda found inspiration on Pinterest and TikTok, drawn to the idea of using a meaningful location to capture this chapter. After winning a social media photography giveaway from Makayla Jones Photography, Brenda shared her vision, and Makayla was immediately on board. They chose Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas—an intentional choice tied to their relationship and their future. “Erik took me there on a date when we were still getting to know each other,” Brenda said. “It’s close to where we will be married, and it felt like a full-circle moment.” Set against stunning architecture and art, the session felt both personal and timeless. The photos are now a keepsake of a season they will never forget, and a beautiful preview of their October 3, 2025, wedding planned by Texarkana’s own Erika Dougherty with ERA Planning & Design.

TXK WEDDINGS 2025

TEXARKANA MAGAZINE

Grace and Heath’s love story began in high school.

What started as a friendship blossomed into something more profound in 2017. From that point forward, their story has been one of steady devotion. While college took them to different cities, they drove thousands of miles to maintain their deep connection. After seven years as a couple, Heath proposed at a location filled with favorite memories, Grace’s family cabin in Glenwood, Arkansas. Having gotten engaged in such a cherished spot, it was only fitting that the couple’s wedding deserved a setting equally significant. Grace had always envisioned herself marrying Heath in the front yard of her aunt and uncle’s home. Tiffani and Trey Patterson made her dream a reality by responding with an immediate and joyful “yes,” when asked. Surrounded by family, friends, and a dream team of vendors, their wedding unfolded like a real-life Father of the Bride moment—a ceremony on the lawn followed by a clear-tent reception. Grace initially tried on gowns in Dallas and Little Rock, but none felt quite right. She had always loved the idea of wearing her mother’s dress, so when she and her mother, Darrah, unboxed it, there was a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Would

it fit? Had time or celebration left any marks from her parents’ wedding at Texarkana Country Club 27 years earlier? Slipping into the simple, classic gown, rich with family history, and seeing the tears in her mother’s eyes, Grace knew that was the dress, their dress, her something borrowed. With a few thoughtful alterations by the talented seamstress Jackie Yates of Atlanta, Texas, the gown was tailored just for Grace. An embroidered patch bearing both wedding dates was sewn into the lining. The family will always be grateful to Jackie for helping preserve this beautiful connection across generations. The dress became a treasured memory shared between mother and daughter. Grace and Heath’s values were thoughtfully incorporated into every part of their special day. Grace’s uncle, Trey, officiated the ceremony. Trey has been a role model to both Grace and Heath, and someone Grace grew up admiring for the way he led their large family. While surprised when asked, Trey humbly responded, “I am definitely not qualified, but there will be nobody who will pray for you and Heath more.” The night after Heath and Grace’s very first date, he opened a Bible that was given to him by his late grandmother, Ada Ferguson. Ada was a woman of deep spiritual strength who loved her family fiercely. Written in the margins were these words: “Lord God, I pray that You will bring Heath the woman, the helper, that You have for him. Bless his marriage with Your presence and power. I pray that they will each know You through Christ and choose Your path always.” An especially touching moment of the ceremony came when the prayer was read aloud. The heartfelt words tied the past to the present. Though the prayer was written long before Grace came into Heath’s life, it felt as if it had always been meant for her. It was a powerful reminder their love had been quietly blessed and guided long before their paths ever crossed. Even the music played on their wedding day reflected their hearts. The ceremony began with “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music, and Grace walked down the aisle to “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake. Their first dance as husband and wife was to “Making

Me Look Good Again” by Drake White, a song that had always reminded them of their love. Heath and his mom danced to “Like Jesus Does” by Eric Church. Grace and her father danced to “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra—the same song they had sung together throughout her childhood. On their wedding day, Grace gifted Heath over fifty handwritten letters, notes she had been writing since 2017. Each letter was sealed and dated, capturing snapshots of their relationship over eight years. The final one was written on the morning of their wedding. Together, the letters told the story of their journey to the altar, one page, one year, one prayer at a time. The vendors who helped bring Grace and Heath’s wedding to life did more than provide services. They, too, left lasting imprints on the day, each adding their own personal touch. Dale from Silks A Bloom created breathtaking floral designs that flowed into the pool.

Hairstylist Brittney Casper made the bride and bridal party feel their absolute best and prayed over Grace before the ceremony, just as she had done for Grace’s cousin, Mary Claire. Photographer Miles Witt Boyer documented the day with skill and attention. Although Grace and Heath aren’t usually comfortable in front of a camera, Miles’ calm approach and clear guidance helped the sessions feel relaxed and genuine. His images will be cherished for a lifetime. Dave from Dave and a Camera produced a captivating video that Grace admits she has already watched a million times. With each view, her smile only grows bigger. Carla Collier created a meaningful and delicious cake. She prayed over every ingredient as she baked, filling her work with love and intention. Terri Court with Amanda Reed Weddings, a close family friend and talented planner, was the thread, bringing everything together.

She made the entire process seamless from the first conversation to the final sendoff. With her insight, creativity, and genuine care, she brought Grace’s vision boards to life in ways that went beyond anything the couple imagined. Grace and Heath will always be grateful for the love and expertise she poured into every detail. Before the reception began, Grace and Heath shared a private dinner, just the two of them. It was a quiet time to reflect and savor their first moments as husband and wife. Their advice to other couples is, “Stay together the entire night. Don’t miss a second. It goes by fast, and what matters most is being fully present with each other.” The evening was full of music, dancing, and joy. Grace and Heath ended the night as they had always imagined, hand in hand, hearts full, surrounded by the people who loved them most. Looking back on their wedding day, Grace shared gratefully, “Being married to my best friend is one of the greatest gifts God has given me.”
