If you Google a definition for “centre of excellence” the first one you come across is “a place where the highest standards are maintained.” In broader terms, a centre of excellence is typically thought of as a collection of individuals or organisations coming together to share best practices, research, knowledge and support in order to innovate on a particular subject matter. Ireland has become a successful “data” centre of excellence because of both multinational and Irish companies that call Ireland home. Enterprise Ireland refers to Ireland as “a global innovation partner to the world’s most dynamic companies, delivering transformative technology that shapes their futures.” The success we see today is a continuation of the 60 years of being a base for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the knowledge and experience accumulated by Irish companies who have done business with these organisations over the years. To better understand how this has impacted the Irish data centre industry both at home and abroad, Host in Ireland sat down with a few of our partners to hear more about their journey. We spoke with Paddy Ryan, CEO of GagaMuller; Paudi Reidy, CEO of LPI Group; Cathal Quinn, Commercial Group Director of Moy Materials; and Greg Hayden, CEO of Ethos Engineering. Each of these companies are at a different stage of growth and development, but each have started their business from Ireland and have scaled up to grow their business exporting Irish services and products to the global data centre market.
