Irish Data Centre Ecosystem Report

Aidan Kerins Group Business Development Director Kirby Group

Aidan Kerins , group business development director for Kirby Group, identifies some of the specific skills that have made them successful in the European data centre industry: “I believe that over time, Irish companies became particularly skilled at reporting to the standards that the US and other FDI multinationals expected in terms of quality assurance, schedule reporting, cost management, and so on. We have a long history of delivering to the asset delivery requirements that suits these organisations and continually exceeding their expectations.” As a result, the data centre ecosystem thrived within Ireland. “Everything channels back to Ireland because of the level of expertise built up from the last five to ten years,” said Shane McMahon , European sales director for Tate Inc. “Many of us in the industry got in early with the hyperscale clients and went through those early growing pains and learned so much. Now, the accumulated knowledge and experience can be found both here in Ireland and with Irish companies.” Irish companies are looking beyond Ireland and exporting those services and expertise abroad. Some of this opportunity comes from servicing untapped markets. “Early on, nobody was building at scale in the traditional data centre hubs. Data centres in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and Paris (FLAP) were in the middle of massive cities. It didn’t make any sense for some of the big contractors to go in, which created an opportunity for us,” said Philip Cruise , preconstruction data centre lead for SISK. “Because we were working with clients who were moving outside of traditional spaces to operate at scale, we were able to build upon that experience and expand our work with colocation clients who were looking to do the same.”
