Al Jazeera Tells its Story: In-Depth Studies

erage of wars, revolutions, elections, disasters, both manmade and nat- ural. Also, by interviewing various political, intellectual and religious leaders around the world. On its platforms, the network has freely and professionally debated the most sensitive and complex issues, giving a voice to the public and monitoring the impact of events on countries, societies and livelihoods as well as peoples’ dignity and basic human rights. While doing so, Al Jazeera has always had the human at the heart of its work. Just as it is present in the editorial policy manuals, the human dimension is also present in our field coverage whether in times of war or peace. Humanity has been the core of the content Al Jazeera produces in both news and programmes. Al Jazeera showed its human bias in the first phase by hosting ‘the opinion and the other opinion’. In the second phase, this policy was made clear through its extraordinary coverage of the events of the Arab region and the world at large. And it portrayed it in the third phase when it dedicated a television channel and digital platforms to English-speaking audiences; and in the fourth phase when the Arab Spring revolutions erupted and its cameras and reporters were at the centre of the events, reporting them honestly and professionally, with a bias only towards the right of freedom, dignity and justice.
