Al Jazeera Tells its Story: In-Depth Studies

- Performing due diligence in cooperation with human resources to identify employees requesting settlements, and providing legal advice on the options available in accordance with those country’s laws - Identifying legal risks through experience with current litigation and making recommendations to the network’s relevant departments and senior management to avoid similar problems in the future To address the financial risks, improve the financial sector’s per- formance and face the risk of a decreased budget due to economic pres- sures, the administration took the following steps: - Updating the purchases schedule - Separating the purchases unit from the financial division, and adding it to the supporting affairs division. - Monitoring application of local laws in network host countries around the world, and appointing legal consultants to review tax laws and benefits that must be applied - Updating financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with international standards - Designing and launching an external bureau dashboard, which assists in monitoring tax compliance, billing, performance reporting, monetary levels and expenditure analysis - Launching a system to measure tax compliance of broadcast cen- tres, channels and external bureaus’ electronic tax compliance, and inte- grating it into the information panel so that it is accessible to all remote users; this improves the ability to monitor compliance and ensure time- ly compliance across sites. From a structural standpoint during this phase, Al Jazeera’s sports channels split from the network in 2012 and became “beIN Sports”. In 2014, the four children’s channels merged, then subsequently split from the network in 2016 and joined the beIN Media Group. In 2018, the projects division was added to the network’s Technology and Op- erations Division, bringing these three divisions under one umbrella: Projects and Technology Solutions, Information Technology and Secu- rity and Operations.
