Conclusion Today’s Vision is Tomorrow’s Reality
Throughout its quarter-century journey, Al Jazeera has experi- enced rapid institutional development, transforming it from an Ara- bic-language news channel to a global media network broadcasting to the world in multiple languages, comprised of a number of channels and digital platforms as well as specialised centres, sectors and various departments. At the start of 2021, the network announced a three-year plan called, “Strategic Goals: Today’s Vision is Tomorrow’s Reality”. The new strategy includes a clear directive to strengthen Al Jazeera’s leadership and consolidate its position at the forefront of media net- works in the region and around the world. The three-year plan also aims to make Al Jazeera Media Network the most influential in the world. To solidify its leadership on the global media landscape, and to preserve its position at the forefront of the world’s largest media insti- tutions, the new strategy has the following eight objectives: 1. To re-establish control over content by creating an on-demand platform 2. Editorial compatibility within a framework that reflects the institution’s identity and ensures a common editorial view across all channels and platform workflows 3. To maintain credibility in the age of fake news to en- hance its position as a trustworthy news source and accurate reference for other media institutions 4. To increase reach and influence by linking the network’s name to large commercial brands, enabling it to reach a larger audience and cover a wider geographic area 5. To strengthen institutional identity in a manner that pre- serves the network’s reputation and counters targeted smear campaigns. 6. To strengthen revenue-generating activities to face eco- nomic challenges and growing expenditures
