The Establishment of Al Jazeera Media Network a “Private Corporation for the Public Benefit” We, Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Believing in human rights and freedoms in general, and in the freedoms of opinion, expression and media in particular; and in what the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states regarding people’s freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. And out of our desire to support and enhance the civilisational and enlightening role the free and independent media play with high com- petence and professionalism, We have sought to establish a private corporation for the public benefit, called “Al Jazeera Media Network”, according to the provi- sions of Law no. 10 of 2011 on the Conversion of Al Jazeera Satellite Network to a private corporation for the public benefit; and the provi- sions of the Decree-Law no. 21 of 2006 regarding private foundations for the public benefit; and according to the following: Article 1: The name of the Corporation: Al Jazeera Media Network (a private corporation for the public benefit). Article 2: The Corporation’s headquarters shall be in the city of Doha and it may establish centres, branches and offices in Qatar and abroad. Article 3: Through operating, managing and transmitting satellite and tele- vision channels; issuing and publishing journalistic and any other media-related materials; the Corporation aims at supporting and con- solidating the freedom of opinion and expression, as well as realising
