2020 Tradeshow Revenue Update: Coronavirus Impact and Alternatives
Dear Chairman Stevens: This is a current update on NIGA’s 2020 Tradeshow Revenues and the impact of the Coronavirus on Tradeshow revenues and NIGA’s 2020 Operating Budget as of March 12, 2020.
Summary Of Issues Below
• The San Diego Convention Center and contracted Hotels are committed to holding the NIGA Tradeshow in San Diego. San Diego County, the Mayor, Convention and Visitors Bureau, did not recommend the cancellation of large gatherings. • The Optical Fiber Conference is taking place this week, March 10-12, at the San Diego Convention Center with attendance at 10,000 people. • California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a directive based on recommendations from California Public Health Officials, to ban all large gatherings over 250 people • **It should be noted—There were two (2) large Conventions scheduled to take place in San Diego prior to NIGA’s 2020 San Diego Tradeshow. Optical Fiber Conference: March 10-13 (15,000 Attendees-show went on as planned this week) IHSRA (Health Club Conference: March 16-18 (12,000 Attendees) • Clarion had talked to NIGA’s top 20 Tradeshow Vendors, and they were still committed to attending NIGA’s Tradeshow, but most were sending reduced staff • With the current Tradeshow Revenue on hand, NIGA would approximately be about (-$)1,300,000 short of our expected 2020 Tradeshow Gross Revenue.
