For any two points on a line, the rise is the difference of the y -coordinates, and the run is the difference of the x -coordinates. Using this information, the slope of a line containing the points ( x 1 , y 1 ) and ( x 2 , y 2 ) can be found using the formula m = ( y 2 − y 1 )/( x 2 − x 1 ).
