4.1.1 Matrices and Data (continued) Example 2 Finding Matrix Sums and Differences

Matrices can be added or subtracted only if they have the same dimensions. The matrix representing their sum or difference will have the same dimensions as the matrices that were added or subtracted. To add or subtract two matrices, add or subtract the corresponding entries, which are the entries with the same address.

Example 3 Business Application To multiply a matrix by a number, called a scalar, multiply each entry in the matrix by the scalar.
