Consider the two data points (0, 0) and (1, 1). If you plot these points on a coordinate plane you might assume they are part of a linear function. In fact, these two data points belong to the linear, quadratic, cubic and square root parent functions. Remember that any parent function used to approximate a set of data should never be considered exact. However, these function approximations are often useful for estimating unknown values.
