Example 3 Graphing Lines Using the Intercepts

When graphing a line, the easiest points to find are often the points where a line crosses the axes. To find the x -intercept (the x -coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the x -axis), substitute 0 for y and solve for x . To find the y -intercept (the y -coordinate of the point where the graph crosses the y -axis), substitute 0 for x and solve for y .
