The Importance of Light

John 10:10
I recently decided it was time to repaint my dad‘s ’32 Chevy Vickie. I hated to do it because of my memories from when the paint was fresh back in 1972 and dad, along with Joe McGee, were so proud of the many hours of buffing, sanding and applying coat-after-coat of color until they finally got the finish they wanted. Alas, after 50 years their hard work deteriorated to the point of no return. I paid a friend of mine to do the hard work of stripping it all down and repainting it which required disconnecting a lot of things to ready it for a fresh coat of paint. Somehow, in the process when I received it back, the lights were no longer work- ing. I never mentioned it to the painter because he was a good friend and had given me one of those amazing friend deals, how- ever, I’ve been trying to find the short that keeps my headlights from working. I recently took the ‘32 for a cruise and forgot my lights weren’t working. On the way home I was stressfully chas- ing the sunset trying to get home before dark. The Bible has a lot to say about light. Perhaps the most important is that Jesus is the light of the world. John talks about Jesus being the light of the world in chapter eight: “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness,

relationship with him. At that time Jesus Christ became Lord of my life, and I began to live in the light. I’ll hopefully find the short in my headlight wiring soon so I can once again drive safely in the evening. Until then I can only drive during the day and my fun with the car is limit- ed. In many ways, it’s the same in our lives, without Christ we can do a lot of great things, and we can have a lot of happy days, but we will always have the limitation of not living the Abundant life that Jesus has to offer. Jesus said in John 10:10: “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfy- ing life.” I hope this will serve as encouragement for us all that the Light has come into the world and is available for us all. Let’s seek out The Light.
because you will have the light that leads to life.” That’s a mighty big claim that if we follow Jesus, we will have the light of life. In today’s world there seems to be a lot of dark- ness. We live in the richest coun- try in the world, enjoy some of the greatest opportunities in the world and truly the freedom to pursue our dreams and yet there are many people who live in America, who are unfulfilled and have let the world consume their thoughts and their mind instead of pursuing Christ and the light that He brings. Thankfully, by the invitation of friends, I was introduced to Jesus when I was 16 in a way that I understood for the first time. I realized it was a relation- ship with Christ that I had been missing all along. I decided then to trust in Jesus and to begin a
