B ill Simpson’s passion for speed emerged early at the age of 18 and while recovering from a drag racing crash in 1958, he had an epiphany about the critical role of safety in racing. Over the span of his career, Bill Simpson developed more than 200 innovative safety products, significantly enhanc- ing driver protection in motorsports. Simpson Performance Products is headquartered in New Braunfels, Texas, where much of the compa- ny’s harness systems, HANS head restraints, and flag- ship parachutes are manufactured and tested on site. Simpson fire suits and crew uniforms are manu- factured outside Los Angeles, California, in their 52,000 sq. ft. facility and they have a factory in Pedrengo (Italy) where helmets are manufactured. Simpson also employs a large customer service and sales team based in Mooresville, North Carolina. Preston Folkestad, Director of Marketing at Simpson Performance, stated, “Simpson has always been part of racing at every level from Pro Stock to parking lot Simpson Performance Products
cone sessions. Our goal is to honor that legacy by giving today’s autocross drivers access to the same quality and protection the pros trust.” Every five years, the Snell Foundation intro- duces a new helmet safety standard and with SA2025 on the horizon (officially going into effect October 1, 2025), the industry is preparing for its next evolution. Helmets certified to SA2015 will begin phasing out of compliance for many sanctioning bodies, including SCCA, NSRA and NHRA, with SA2020 remaining and SA2025 being introduced to become the new expected standards.
