CLIENT SPOTLIGHT Sharing Heidi’s Story and Passion
During the pandemic, a dear client of ours, Heidi, was diagnosed with breast cancer and began chemo treatments. With excellent care, she was fortunate to avoid many of the treatment’s negative side effects and was not ill or tired. Downtime at home during this treatment and recovery period allowed her to focus on optimism and to continue to pursue her passion, writing a children’s book. Heidi has been a real estate broker and a manager at IKEA for the past 18 years. Finding time to write between these two obligations was tough. By turning her scary and unfortunate situation into positivity, she found the perfect time to complete her masterpiece. Her son, Brandon, a graphic arts major, made the characters come to life and illustrated the book — how perfect! Heidi Kirkman’s “The Deep Dark Depths of the Backyard” follows a firefly on his journey. Whenever he encounters a new creature or critter to help, he shines his light a little brighter. “I based the story on parables and stories in the
Bible,” Heidi tells us. “It’s all about letting your light shine bright to help others, and in the end, there’s a little surprise. When the firefly finally rests and the mom comes into the bedroom, the little girl looks up and smiles. The mom then tells her that she is the brightest light of all, lighting up the room with her smile.” Heidi wrote the book to be read with passion so she incorporated noises and actions for parents and teachers to act out while reading to children. “It comes alive through the noises and provides a good message to help the kids to feel good about themselves and want to shine their light a little brighter, too,” Heidi says. To support Heidi and share the firefly’s light with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and wonderful children in your life, look for “The Deep Dark Depths of the Backyard” on Amazon. Thank you, Heidi, for sharing your passion and story with us! We admire you!
