The province is revising its Fire Protection and Preven- tion Act to include new regulations for mandatory certification and training for firefighters.

S’il est choisi pour représenter le Parti libéral, il affrontera sa collègue au conseil municipal, Amanda Simard, qui a été choisie candidate du Parti progressiste-conservateur l’an dernier. Une éventuelle élection de Pierre Leroux à Queen’s Park exigerait qu’il cède son poste de maire de la Municipalité de Russell. Mais dans le cas contraire, le principal intéressé confirme qu’il ne quitterait pas la vie politique. « Si je ne gagne pas, je me représen- terai maire parce que j’adore servir ma communauté. »

Crack, le maire de la Municipalité de Russell, Pierre Leroux, a annoncé son intention de se présenter à l’investiture comme candidat du Parti libéral de l’Ontario dans Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. M. Leroux a indiqué que c’est le député Crack lui-même qui a sondé son intérêt à se présenter. « C’était un grand honneur. Je ne m’attendais pas à ça », a-t-il confié. Dans un communiqué, celui-ci a déclaré vouloir « reprendre là où Grant a laissé et continuer de faire pression pour des inves- tissements qui font une réelle différence dans la vie des gens. » Une occasion de changer les règles Le maire de la Municipalité de Russell, qui se décrit comme « financièrement conser- vateur et socialement libéral », estime que son arrivée éventuelle à Queen’s Park lui permettra de faire des changements. « Je vois une occasion pour des change- ments positifs au niveau provincial. Comme maire, j’ai souvent vu qu’il fallait suivre les règles que la province mettait en place. Mais au niveau provincial, si je ne suis pas content avec les règles en place, je peux avoir une influence. She had less kind words for Crack’s possible replacement as the Liberal candidate and her potential rival in the June provincial election. “I want to thank Grant Crack for his many years of public service and I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavours,” Simard stated in an email.
