A Reflection of 2019 Significant Changes in 2019
community. We secured two of the largest settlements in our firm’s history. I was also fortunate enough to argue a case in front of the Texas Supreme Court. It’s not common for a case to reach our state’s highest court, much less to be able to argue the case in front of the justices. It was incredibly exciting, and we will find out the ruling sometime this spring. Our Fort Worth office moved to a new building, as well! We are growing, so it’s a good problem to have. If you’re in the area, I encourage you to stop by! It’s in the historic Stockyards — and the building is over a 100 years old with a lot of character. Personally, 2019 has been rather bittersweet. Our 3-year-old is now potty trained, so we’re doing away with diapers, which is a huge relief. Our middle daughter just started kindergarten too, so it’s fun for our two daughters to be at the same elementary school. Despite the blessings I experienced this past year, I have also experienced great loss. My older brother, Scott Kelly, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 45 in early August. Trying to put to paper a fitting tribute to my brother will always prove an insufficient effort. He was a father, husband, brother, and a proud Houston firefighter who loved serving his community.
As hindsight is always 20/20, you would be surprised by what you have endured and how much you’ve grown as a person in just one year. So, when reflecting on 2019, don’t ignore that growth, as you can use that foundation to make the most of 2020. As I’m ringing in the new year myself, I’m thinking about the ups and downs of 2019 that truly influenced how I handle both my personal and professional life.

His loss forced me to look at my own life and make sure I’m taking care of the people that matter most. Moving into the next year, I’m looking forward to helping our new staff get situated so they can help serve our community. We have numerous trial dates coming up in 2020, so I’m excited to get into the courtroom to represent our clients. Also, as a small New Year’s resolution, I am trying to limit the amount of time I spend on the trivial things in life. For example, I’m trying to stay off my phone more often and be more present in the moment. In 2020, I’m really trying to ensure I’m spending enough time with my family, my kids, and my wife. It’s always imperative to focus on the present and enjoy the moment. Have a wonderful new year everyone.
