BIRDING WORKSHOPS
Stop winging it and join our flock! In this Intro to Birding workshop, you’ll learn the basics of bird watching, or birding. Topics covered will include the habitat, migration, and behavior of different birds, as well as how to identify them by family and species. You will not only cultivate an appreciation of the birds in your own backyard, but you will also acquire a set of skills that will allow you to explore and grow your knowledge of birds near and far.

Winter is a great time to be a birder on the Texas coast. Many species migrate to our area to spend the winter and will only be here a few months out of the year. During this workshop, we will focus on how to find and identify these winter specialty birds. Waterfowl, sparrows, raptors, and many more are all on our list! We will meet briefly for an educational lecture before heading out on a field trip to a local natural area where we will search for these special, winter birds. 7461, Sat., Jan. 20, 7 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Spring brings great birding and the opportunity to see a wide range of migrant species. Birds traveling from their wintering grounds often stop and rest on the Texas coast before heading north to their breeding grounds. During this workshop, we will focus on how to identify the amazing birdlife funneling through our area. Highlighting this workshop will be the dozens of vibrant warbler species that can be found! We will meet for an educational lecture on Thursday evening so that our field trip Saturday morning is without any delays. The early bird gets the worm after all! We will be finished with the Saturday field trip by noon. Accompanying field trip is Sat., Apr. 28, 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. 7463, Thur., Apr. 26, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
