T rina’s Sweet Treats and More is not just a bakery or a restaurant. It’s a place where every bite is infused with love. “What started with desserts has continued to evolve over the years, expanding into breakfast, lunch, dinner, catering, custom cakes, special events and so much more.” says CEO Catrina Mitchell, who founded the Pascagoula-based business in 2015. Before embarking on entrepreneurship, Mitchell earned degrees in early childhood education and healthcare administration and worked in customer service, as well as serving as a case manager with the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Leading a successful company for 11 years, one that has been recognized as the Best Bakery on the Gulf Coast, is a milestone Mitchell is especially proud of reaching. “My background may not have followed a traditional path into the food industry,” she says, “but every chapter of my life has contributed to the businesswoman, mother and leader I am today.” A BUSINESS BORN OF LOVE AND FAMILY TRADITION Owning a bakery was never a future Mitchell imagined for herself. In fact, she admits, she didn’t even know how to bake when she started. “My passion came from simply being a girl who loved her dad,” she recalls. Mitchell’s mom once cooked large dinners on Sundays — including delicious, eagerly anticipated desserts. Her father’s favorites were red velvet cake and pound cake. “When (my mother) suddenly became ill and could no longer do the things she had always done, I didn’t want my dad to go without
