Just in the Nick of Time! by Peri Hayes Dennis Angyal is the proud Director of the Elgin Theatre Guild’s (ETG) eagerly anticipated production of Just in the Nick of Time! , by Linda Daugherty. Immersed in the local community for 50 years and counting, Dennis has recently become a member of the ETG Board. He has abundant acting and directing experience over the years throughout Aylmer, Ingersoll, London, St. Thomas and Tillsonburg. “I am getting more involved in my hometown theatre,” he delightedly shares. This cast involves 20 members under sixteen, with half a dozen roles for mature participants. Referencing his time spent coaching youth sport, Dennis exclaims, “I am excited for this opportunity to work with young people again. My number one priority for this show is to make sure that everybody takes away something and they have fun. I want to teach them theatre and stagecraft, but get them to love what they’re doing so they want to keep doing it. Being able to positively influence kids to find something that they love is the best feeling in the world for me. It makes me so happy, and I enjoy being part of the community.” “I got my start in high school, and I was hooked -- hearing the laughter and the applause,” Dennis details as he recalls his initial role in theatre. “For every character played, you take a little part of them with you.” Dennis candidly voices his father’s passing, one week before his scheduled performance in a high school production. At the age of 17, Dennis begged to proceed with the show, revealing, “That was the only time that my heart wasn’t breaking; when I was detached from my own grief.” Asked what excites Dennis about Just in the Nick of Time! , he passionately offers, “For me, every rehearsal is like a mental vacation; you focus onstage and you get into your character.”
Dennis is looking forward to entertaining the community with Just in the Nick of Time! , introducing, “The lead character is a Detective called Red Mistletoe.” The story is told through the use of colour with a bright and cheerful beginning when suddenly -- Santa Claus disappears from the North Pole, and an investigation is underway. With their Karaoke Night on the horizon for this November 19th, Dennis is eager to increase the ETG’s recognition as a local space for the creative arts. Moreover, watch for the ETG’s float in the upcoming circus-themed St. Thomas Santa Claus Parade. Just in the Nick of Time! will be showcased at the ETG from December 5th until December 15th. Tickets, as well as contact and volunteer information, are available through the elgintheatreguild.ca website. Those interested are encouraged to secure their seat, as the ETG’s holiday show historically sells out. Dennis expresses his gratitude to myFM and their sponsors and his personal support system, being his wife and number one supporter, along with their three beloved children.
