and way as we live in the midst of a very affluent society. Quite frank ly, I think that today may require more power to personal commit ment, taking a look at life's real objectives, than that which may have been required of Olysses and his band from mythology. Cod give us the strength to follow through on our convictions and to be will ing, ultimately, to bring glory to His name. COD 'S MERCY AND GRACE There was an interesting story recently which, while doubtless quite apocryphal, deals with some of the attitudes of our day. It seems that a policeman came to the aid of a man obviously attempting sui cide on a high bridge. Hurriedly, the officer ran to rescue the man, trying to talk him out of his deci sion. The report goes on to say that after five minutes of consider ing the man's problems, outlook on life and frustrating future, the two men jumped off the bridge together! Contemplating the activities and problems with which you may be faced today, it is no wonder that men are so filled with fears, fore bodings and failures. Yet, as be lievers, we are not looking for the undertaker. We are rather looking for the uppertaker! God has some tremendous things in store for us. He wants us to know that there is a practical warning which will help us to understand the trends of the times in which we are living. Con cerning false teaching, no book of the Bible is more explicit and def inite in its pronouncements than the Epistle of Jude. The Apostle describes these apostates further in verse 12 by Page 43

right to take a greater place of authority. Such was clearly taught in the Word of Cod as a sin and an offense. It was an abomination in the sight of the Lord. In judg ment, the ground opened and swaMowed him up, along with 250 of his followers. False worship as found in Num bers 16 has its counterpart today. We find it in the comments of those who declare Christ as no better than we are. This is the ba sis of some religions which would turn aside from the question, "What think ye of Christ? Whose Son is He?" We are living in per ilous times, in a difficult hour when those who are opposed to the Word seem to be gaining the ascendency on so many fronts. Thanks be unto Cod, however, for His continual overcoming vic tory. May we "awake to righteous ness and sin not for many have not the knowledge of God." Our purpose in life is to be a positive witness for the Saviour. Basically, when we stop to realize it, each one of us may well be the only Christian somebody knows. After ten years in arduous warfare in the seige of Troy, recorded in ancient Greek mythology, Ulysses and his companions turned home ward. They anchored their ship on an unknown coastline and were met by friendly natives who offered them the lotus plant to eat. This had a peculiar property in that all who ate it ceased thinking of home, family, friends and business. Rath er, they settled down in a dreamy apathy. Ulysses and his family of men were content to dwell and die in this lotus land. I am afraid, my friend, it is easy for us to lose sight of Cod's will
