Key Accountabilities • Direct and Undertake project

priorities should be in the relevant work area, and allocate resources to meet planned objectives, requirements and timescales. • Project manage activities to facilitate major service or operational changes. • Contribute to, and take a lead in, the development of policies, procedures and plans in own work area • Manage, prepare, control and monitoring of budgets, both capital and revenue • Monitor and take responsibility for managing allocated assets, resources and budgets in the relevant work area. • contribute to resource and budget planning and contribute to business and income development. • Ensure that University financial procedures are adhered to when liaising and negotiating with internal and external suppliers. • Working with the Executive Director of Estates and Facilities and Deputy develop and implement the university investment plan, ensuring the optimum use and future development of the university’s estates and buildings. • Leading on business case/ option appraisal and brief development. • Develop, lead and implement a project delivery model ensuring all projects are reviewed at appropriate gateways, project budgets are actively monitored and reported, change control is effectively managed and minimised, risk management is embedded, appropriate procurement and contractual arrangements are in place, and post completion reviews are carried out. • Lead the delivery of the university’s capital programme and minor works and estate improvements so that high quality teaching, learning, research, living, social and leisure space are provided within agreed budgets and timescales. • Collaboratively with the Associate Director of Campuses ensure project

management and contribute to a range of projects for the University, employing formal techniques to carry out work. • Lead the Senior project managers to successfully deliver the programme of works. • The role will be expected to work closely with IT strategy programme delivery to align good practice and efficiencies of project delivery. • Recruit fixed term project managers, dependant on volume of projects. • Establish central EFD programme of works and keep updated. • Coordinate all capital project management activity. • Report to, and participate in, relevant Committees to contribute to the development of strategy, policy and good practice project management. • lead in securing all relevant planning and other building related permissions to all Estates developments. • Participate actively in relevant local, regional, national, and international forums. • Identify trends and solutions, sourcing additional information, reporting on progress and making recommendations via briefings, presentations or written reports. • Oversee and ensure that information storage and retrieval processes in the relevant work area are effective and up to date so that both internal and external (e.g. legislative or national) requirements can be met. • Plan and organise project activity over longer-scales ensuring Estates development plans complement and feed into the strategic plans (e.g. academic development), and that there is cohesion with other relevant areas of the University. • Set, or make recommendations (e.g. to Committees, colleagues, etc) on what

Job Title Associate Director of Capital Projects

This role profile is non-contractual and provided for guidance. It will be updated and amended from time to time in accordance with the changing needs of the university and the requirements of the job.

Department Estates and Facilities Directorate (EFD) Role reports to Deputy Director of Capital, Property and Space Direct Reports Senior Project Managers, Programme and business case manager and consultants/ fixed term project managers

Purpose of role To manage and deliver the university estates and facilities capital project plan. To coordinate the estates and facilities capital programme. Ensure that good practice project management standards are implements and clear governance and controls are in place. The postholder will be expected to deputise for the Deputy Director of Capital, Property and Space. The Capital Development team will provide a multi-disciplinary design and project management service in relation to alteration, refurbishment, planned preventative maintenance as well as new build works, up to approximate programme value of circa £300M. The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing the development and implementation of this programme in addition to the on-going management and improvement of all estates related activities at the University. This will include such things as component and materials standardisation, design and construction advice, and fire safety, on new build and major refurbishment projects. The post will manage the capital projects team and related staff and be responsible for providing all Professional development services advice as appropriate supporting the Deputy director of Capital, Property and Space in overall delivery of the strategy and objectives.
