upon the same object at which God is looking.—J. G. Belief. 13. Triumph! ‘ “Jesus of Nazareth . . . ye have . . . crucified and slain; whom God hath raised, up” (Acts 2:22-24). What a victory was this . . . oyer death and all the powers of. darkness! What a Christ is this—exalted far above the thronfe of David, to sit on the right hand of the Majesty on high! . . . No more the poor earthy thought of a Christ who was come to indulge the selfish ambition of a disciple! Peter triumphed in a Prince and a Saviour who was exalted to give repentance and remission of sins.^-Mark Guy Pearse. 14. Temptation “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evii” (Matt. 6:13). Temptation is a fearful word. It in dicates the beginning of a possible series of infinite evils. It is the ringing of an alarm bell whose melancholy sound may reverberate through eternity. Like the sudden, sharp cry of “Fire!” under our windows in the night, it should rouse us to instantaneous action, and brace every moral muscle to its highest ten sion.—Horace Mann. 15. Contrast “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him” (2 Tim. 2 : 12 ).

force will be the direct curse to religion if they are not sanctified by more and better praying. . . . We do greatly need somebody who can set the saints to this business of praying.—E. M. Bounds. 11. Delights of the Cross “The preaching of the cross is . . . the power of God” (1 Cor. 1:18). Adieu! ye vain delights of earth; Insipid sports, and childish mirth, I taste no sheets in you; Unknown delights are in' the cross, All joy beside to me is dross; And Jesus thought so, too. The cross! Oh, ravishment and bliss, How grateful even its anguish is, Its bitterness how sweet! There every sense, and all the mind, In all her faculties refined, Tastes happiness complete. Where to Look “When I see the blood, I will pass over you” (Ex. 12:13). Banish every fear from your heart. God is not looking at your sin, but at the blood of the Lamb. . . . Now, if God is not looking at your sin, why should you keep dwelling upon it? If He graciously triumphs in the fruit of His love, why should you not triumph in it also? The spring of your com munion-is your keeping your eye fixed —Madame Guyon. 12.

that is, from God’s point of view— nothing is great, nothing small, as we measure it. The worth and the quality of an action depend on its motive only, and not at all on its prominence or on any other of the accidents which we are always apt to adopt as the tests of the greatness of our deeds. -—Alexander Maclaren. 9. The Necessity of Perseverance “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple" (Psa. 27:4). ' Nature will not unveil her rarest beauty to the chance tourist. Pictures which are the results of a life of work do not disclose their secret loveliness to the saunterer down a gallery. No character can be read at a glance. And God’s best cannot be ours apart from patient waiting in His holy presence. —F. B. Meyer. L0. Prayerless Saints “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint" (Lk. 18:1). - Where are the Christly leaders who can teach ''the modern saints how to pray and put them at it ? Do we know we are raising up a prayerless set of saints? . ) . An increase of educational facilities and a great increase of money
