Meet the Volunteers Who Support Your Library by Amelia Bainbridge, St. Thomas Public Library Communications & Donor Relations Coordinator Volunteers are a big part of what makes St. Thomas Public Library such a great place! Right now, we have two amazing groups who support us: the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and the Friends of St. Thomas Public Library. They may be different, but they both make a huge impact — and we’re so grateful for everything they do! Teen Advisory Board Our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of high school students in grades 9–12 who meet monthly at the library. Their role is to help plan and promote programs, suggest ways to make the library a more welcoming place for teens, and to create content for the library’s social media. TAB members also assist with library events during March Break, PD Days, and summer, helping our staff run busy programs smoothly. TAB isn’t just about volunteering — it’s also a chance for teens to connect over books, shared experiences, and what’s happening in the world. It’s a fun way to meet new people, build leadership skills, and make a real impact in the community. Plus, TAB members earn volunteer hours while gaining hands-on experience in planning, teamwork, and working with the public! If you’re a teen looking for a fun and meaningful way to get involved, we’d love to have you! You can apply for TAB online at stthomaspubliclibrary.ca/youth. the library since 1994, and their impact has been incredible. Over the years, they’ve donated more than $200,000, helping us grow and bring new services to the community. Thanks to their generosity, we’ve been able to launch big projects like the Elgin Centre Kiosk and the Outreach Van, making library materials more accessible to everyone. So, how do they do it? The Friends run an independent charity that raises funds by selling used books, with all proceeds going straight back to the library. They also host special auctions for rare and collectible books. Their dedication and hard work make a huge difference, and we couldn’t be more grateful! Want to support the library? A simple way is to visit the Friends of the Library bookshop at Elgin Centre and grab a great read. If you’re interested in joining the Friends and volunteering, you can pick up an application at their shop or print one from our website: stthomaspubliclibrary.ca/friends-of-the-library. Volunteers are the heart of our library, and we appreciate everything they do to make our community stronger. Whether you’re a teen looking for a fun way to get involved or an adult wanting to give back, there’s a place for you at the library!

Thank you to our many wonderful volunteers. You bring so much joy into our home!
