Hometown St.Thomas April 2025

Letter from the Editor Winter finally seems to be coming to an end, and after the last few years of milder weather, this season reminded us what a true Canadian winter feels like — magical, but very, very cold. It was a season of frosted windows, shovelling marathons, and the constant search for missing gloves. Where do all the right ones go? With spring come fresh starts, new

While you’re there, don’t forget to bring your ballot for our 2nd Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Once again, I’m asking you, our readers, to tell me all about your favourite businesses in St. Thomas. We have over 50 categories, from best oil change to best chicken wings to best customer service (which is always a hotly contested race). You’ll find the ballot on page 15 of this issue, or you can vote online at www.readerschoicestthomas. ca. Plus, just for voting, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $250 Briwood Farm Market gift certificate! Another exciting event this month is the St. Thomas & District Chamber of Commerce Impact Awards, happening on Friday, April 25th. This is always a fantastic evening that brings the community together to celebrate local businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organizations. As a proud recipient of the 2023 Exceeding Everest Impact Award (since renamed Business of the Year), I can say firsthand what an honour it is to be recognized. The evening also features an incredible food showcase, and this year’s guest speaker is none other than Kris Pearn, an animator, writer, and director behind films like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. If you haven’t secured your ticket yet, reach out to the Chamber soon because they will sell out. To read about this year’s nominees and award categories, check out pages 48 to 55 of this month’s issue. I hope you have a fantastic month, and I look forward to seeing you at one of our many wonderful local events!

life, and a general sense of renewal. For many homeowners, that means considering changes — whether it’s upgrading to a larger home, downsizing to something more manageable, or simply breathing new life into their current space. That’s why, in this issue, we present our annual Spring Home & Garden feature along with the 2025 St. Thomas Home Show Guide. These pages are packed with inspiration and, more importantly, connections to local experts who can turn your home improvement dreams into reality. If you’ve never been to the St. Thomas Home Show, I highly encourage you to check it out. It’s a fantastic weekend filled with amazing local businesses showcasing their expertise. This year, the Doug Tarry Room will feature even more local organizations sharing their talents. And beyond learning about home improvement, plenty of great prizes can be won. Be sure to stop by the Hometown St. Thomas table as you come in and enter for a chance to win $500 Downtown Dollars!
