The Blooming Spring Market by Peri Hayes Owner of The Ice Box, Markus Hawco, enthuses about The Blooming Spring Market on the horizon, “We are creating a strong lineup of markets: Our Christmas Market, The Blooming Spring Market and our soon-to-be announced summer markets.” These events are in conjunction with The Ice Box Event Fund; a not-for-profit designed to create the continuation of these cheerful occasions. “This event welcomes the public to enjoy a well-rounded selection of crafts and various items for sale,” Markus exclaims. Moreover, The Blooming Spring Market is intentionally curated to ensure that no particular product or category will surpass more than three vendor representatives, serving the purpose of minimal repetition. In exciting news, the ice will be removed and Markus has consequently doubled the amount of vendors for this event -- with 84 participants located throughout the venue, on the rink pad. For notification of future markets, Markus invites entrepreneurs to complete The Ice Box’s Vendor Registry. Debuting with The Blooming Spring Market is their food area for guests to order and gather for a meal. “Come hungry,” Markus encourages. Furthermore, there will be beverages for sale -- both cocktails and mocktails with a spring theme. In accordance with this inspiration, there will be vibrant decorations and gorgeous floral photo opportunities bringing the sweetness of the season to the space. Markus reveals that they have prepared rustic wooden swings for people to enjoy. As well, planter boxes have been built to outline the areas of the market for governing traffic flow. These pieces will be for sale, available for retrieval at the event’s end.
“Honestly,” Markus expresses, “What I’m excited about is how we have had a number of vendors that want to come back out. They trust us to put on a good market. We are anticipating to see the same, if not larger crowd sizes. It was so exciting to see how many people came through last time.” As graciously accepted donations will be directed to The Ice Box Event Fund, supporting The Blooming Spring Market will, therefore, be re-invested into their next celebration.. Markus assures, “People can feel good about bringing a bigger and better experience to St. Thomas every year.” The Blooming Spring Market will be celebrated during the weekend of April 26 and 27th on the arena floor of the Joe Thornton Community Centre, both days from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. With 5,000 attendees at their previous Christmas Market, Markus proudly reflects, “It’s giving us a good feeling and good stride that we are putting on a strong market for everyone to enjoy!” The Ice Box concession operates from 4:30 pm until 8:30 pm throughout the week, and from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm on weekends.
