Denise Hill, BIFA Member engagement director, provides an update on the activity of the past six months Strengthening our regional team

well as contacting your local representative with any questions you may have. Meeting Members Andrew Melton has been keeping busy since joining, visiting Members, reaching out to local stakeholders and holding the first face-to-face regional meetings for over three years in the Midlands, Manchester and Leeds. These were well attended with a very positive atmosphere in which Members were able to catch up with each other, share their experiences and receive updates on both local and national issues. A Member meeting in Liverpool is planned for 18 October. Steve Parker, Director General, accompanied by policy and compliance advisor (Customs), Igor Popovics, visited Northern Ireland in June for the first Member meeting since the beginning of the pandemic. Together with Shauneen McConville and 30 attendees, they discussed Member concerns around

O n joining the association at the beginning of April, I was asked to review and assess current Member activities and start to lay the foundations for the coming year. So, six months in, I thought it timely to provide an update to Members on the progress made in terms of engagement, as well as provide an insight of the activities planned for 2024. Team building As you may have seen we have been able to strengthen our regional representative team with Andrew Melton joining us in July for the Northern England and the Midlands region, and Paul Cunningham for the South and South West in September. Both Andrew and Paul have significant industry experience at senior level and will, I am sure,

provide invaluable advice to our Members. To complete regional coverage, Shauneen McConville will be representing Northern Ireland interests and we are in the process of finalising details of a representative in Scotland. Both will be working on an ad hoc basis and again I am sure they will offer great insight and support. The above join the immensely capable and knowledgeable Paul meetings in the Anglia, London East and South East region, with issues relating to the lack of clarity around the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM) in terms of sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) controls high on the agenda.
