A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
Our first few tutor groups have reflected on their Thames Young Mariners visits and told us that they had a brilliant day learning new skills that meant their rafts were super strong in the water. They loved getting wet doing the dock jump and for some even wetter when kayaking and trying to splash the instructors! On Tuesday Year 7 were lucky enough to enjoy a Dead Poets Live workshop, they watched the actors serenade a speaker and have a ‘rap battle’ in Old Scottish dialect.
We thank those parents who attended the Year 7 information evening on Tuesday and remind you all that the presentation slides are available to view on our website along with the Year 7 Curriculum guide.
Year 7 are doing extremely well earning Epraise points. Well done to 7SON who are in 3rd place in the whole school totals, with 7PCO topping the school’s leader board in 1st place, this is simply fantastic! Keep it up as I’m sure the other Year 7 forms will be hot on your heels. Next week we will hear from our final tutor groups about their Thames Young mariners experiences this week. We look forward to the Friends of Waldegrave Year 7 Family Bingo night next Friday 4 October, which promises to be a fun evening with our very own Mr Greaves as the bingo caller. Come along to join the fun and get to know other Year 7 families. Next week we also have the exciting MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 4th October. Students are encouraged to bake or buy some cakes, which must be nut free, to add to their house’s cake stall. Last year Waldegrave raised £964.18 in support of the charity. It would be wonderful to see some budding bakers in Year 7 show off their skills and support this fantastic cause as well as their respective houses. They should also bring in some cash if they want to buy cakes on the day!
Waldegrave is hosting our first ever Wildlife Photography Competition and we would love to see some entries from our Year 7 pupils. You can find more details in the advert further in the bulletin.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
The first book of a majestic fantasy trilogy, Northern Lights introduces readers to the bold heroine, Lyra. Set in a sideways world, where everyone has a daemon in animal form, the story opens with the ominous news that children are going missing, which begins Lyra’s quest for knowledge.
This is a magical book, which is wonderful to read together with children, perhaps paired with the relatively recent BBC adaptation.
