Middle School
THIS WEEK IN... MIDDLE SCHOOL
YEAR 4 In English, we continued to explore the story, 'FArTHER'. After finishing off postcards about the father and son's visit to the beach, we wrote setting descriptions of the father's shed, focusing on noun phrases to describe the sounds that could possibly be heard. We ended the week designing our own flying machines inspired by the book, ahead of writing instructions next week. On Tuesday, during our Literacy Leaf session, we continued to read 'The Wild Robot', answered questions about the story and discussed specific techniques the author has used. In Art we have finished our Christmas card designs and in DT we have been exploring Ancient Greek and Roman chariots, looking at axles and wheels. On Wednesday, Year 3 completed their CAT tests (The Cognitive Abilities Test). We ensured the experience for Year 3 was calm and relaxed, whilst also ensuring that the children were given the right support and conditions. All the children coped well with the activities and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of Forest School and Art to celebrate their hard work. MIDDLE SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES: Congratulations to the following children who will be our Eco-Council Representatives this year: Year 4 - Isabelle O, Persie M, Rosie A; Year 3 - Florence U, William H and Frey T. Mrs Welch looks forward to working with this enthusiastic group of children in the weeks and months to come! Year 3
It was wonderful to hear every child read their chosen piece for the Reading Competition. We look forward to the Quarter Finals which will commence next week. A big well done to all the children for reading with such confidence and enthusiasm.
READING: Our wonderful Middle School Librarian, Mrs Habberley, has calculated the total Accelerated Reader Word Count averages this week, and we are pleased to announce that the winning house is Chislehurst, with 43,224 words!
