Year 7 Art
A small group of Year 7 pupils took the bus to Faringdon this week to start what will hopefully be a lifelong practice of urban sketching. The Urban Sketchers are a group of artists worldwide who meet to capture their environment in their chosen media. The idea is to take down a glimpse of a place, in any style you enjoy and to be immersed in the process of taking in your surroundings. We focused on leading lines and perspectives, learning that vertical lines are almost always straight up and down, but that horizontal lines on buildings can be at strange angles. We sketched in pen, to move away from the idea that marks are mistakes, which freed us up to enjoy the process and just look where we could for interesting details and angles. Some had time to watercolour at the end. Encouraged by smaller sketchbooks and easily portable materials, lots of these sketchers were saying that they will be carrying a tiny kit around with them in the future!
