A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
It has been another fantastic week for Year 8! We have seen great focus in lessons and continue to hear some really positive feedback from tutors and subject teachers.
Please be aware that many of our extra curricular PE and Music clubs have begun and the lists have now been posted on all Google Classrooms. If your child would like to find out more about these opportunities then please ask them to speak to their Form Tutor. We have begun our Open Morning tours this week and I have been so impressed with the levels of enthusiasm and confidence Year 8 have demonstrated as tour guides. They were a real asset to the event. Next week our Open Morning tours continue and it is a perfect opportunity to further demonstrate their leadership skills. Well done to 8PUN who are topping the epraise league table this week for Year 8! They are closely followed by 8EBH and 8FLE. Well done to all the students who are demonstrating the enjoy, achieve and empower aspects of school life - this is great to see. Waldegrave is hosting our first ever Wildlife Photography Competition. They can get involved by taking a picture of the wildlife around them (not pets). The entries need to be submitted by the end of October half-term to wildlifephotographer@waldegravesch.org It would be lovely to see Year 8 getting involved and showing off their photography skills and talents! On Friday 4th of October we have our Macmillan coffee morning cake sale. Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is one of the biggest fundraising events to support people living with cancer. Last year Waldegrave raised £964.18 in support of the charity. Students are encouraged to bake nut free cakes at home and bring these into school next Friday to sell at the coffee morning. They should also bring in some cash if they want to buy cakes on the day and help us raise money for this great cause!
MRS LYDDON, HEAD OF YEAR 8
BOOK OF THE MONTH
Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
The first book of a majestic fantasy trilogy, Northern Lights introduces readers to the bold heroine, Lyra. Set in a sideways world, where everyone has a daemon in animal form, the story opens with the ominous news that children are going missing, which begins Lyra’s quest for knowledge.
This is a magical book, which is wonderful to read together with children, perhaps paired with the relatively recent BBC adaptation.
